  • American Meadows sells a wide variety of seeds, plants, bushes, and trees. The site includes a nice filter system to help narrow down your choices.

  • HGTV Handmade YouTube Channel This YouTube channel has some great DIY ideas for decorating and improving your home.
  • HouseLogic has material on home ownership including topics like taxes, financing, best improvement projects, greening improvements, remodeling, etc.

  • Ask the Builder has a lot of advice from Tim Carter.
  • HGTV.com Companion material to shows on the HGTV cable channel. The site contains tools for redecorating and designing.
  • Home Depot Blog The site contains DIY videos and is full of design ideas. Great site to browse.
  • DIY Projects The site is full of DIY projects categorized into a handful of areas such as home, outdoor, decor, etc.
  • Household Wiring Diagrams has a lot of electrical wiring diagrams for various scenarios.
  • Curbly - is a blog on taking care of your house and making it a nicer place to live. Has plenty of DIY ideas and tips for cleaning.

  • Bob Vila's Site includes a FAQ on construction and a bulletin board posting service to get your question answered by the public. Also, he has an archive of articles.

  • Design Sponge is a DIY site with projects that you actually might be able to pull off. Not me. But, maybe you.
  • 10 Best Free Floorplan Tools is a collection of free, online floor plan designers.
  • 5 Free Office Floorplan Designers
  • Room Sketcher is free, online floor plan software.
  • The Sweethome - reviews of home appliances and tools similar to the WireCutter site.
  • Houzz.com has a database of vendors for select metro areas including Philadelphia. It also has a catalogue of pictures to help create ideas for interior and exterior design. And it has a sales catalogue including interior and exterior items for kitchens, baths, living room, etc.
  • AllBrand is a great source for appliance parts. They also have appliance diagrams which can be useful in figuring out how to take an appliance apart.
  • HouseLogic - Oranizing and Maintaining This site is sponsored by realtors and has a bunch of tips on how to clean, organize, and maintain your home.

  • Photovoltaic Estimator This is a government sponsored site that estimates the electricity you will need to generate to satisfy your home requirements when considering solar energy installations.
  • Project Sunroof This is a Google sponsored site that shows how many other houses in your area are using solar and the amount of energy that can be generated dependent on the geography of your roof.
  • Solar Estimator This site estimates solar requirements based on your geographical location. (As of 2022, this site did not work.)
Home DIY
  • RepairClinic The site has a lot of tutorials including video and text material focusing mostly on a wide variety of appliances. Check their YouTube library also.
  • Fine Homebuilding includes all sorts of videos on home repair and maintenance. In addition to videos on contruction projects, there are short videos on techniques as well as videos on using tools.
  • Home Depot DIY Videos
  • Today's Home Owner Videos are DIY videos on a large variey of projects associated with home maintenance.
  • Quickrete Videos This site has a bunch of useful videos on concrete installation and maintenance.
  • How to Paint a House Right This site has a bunch of useful videos on interior and exterior house painting.
  • Howcast Plumbing This site has a bunch of useful videos on home plumbing installation and maintenance.
